Reunion 1998! Berkeley Springs, West Virginia
(check out the related links below!)
It’s time to make your plans to attend the 44th Annual Anstead Family Reunion! This year’s reunion will be held the weekend of June 26-28, 1998 in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. For those of you who do not know, Berkeley Springs is the town to which Ellsworth, the oldest of the children of Harry & Mary Anstead (and my grandfather) retired and lived the last part of his life. In addition, the town offers a little something for everyone...
Cacapon Resort State Park(about 9 miles outside of town) will be the center of operations for the 1998 reunion. The park has many great features to keep most everyone busy all weekend, while at the same time being close enough to town for those who prefer the comforts of shopping and sightseeing. Cacapon Park Cacapon Resort State Park is a 6,000-acre retreat offering a wide range of recreational activities. Cacapon Mountain at 2,300 feet, is the dominant scenic feature within the park following its length north and south. Hiking and bridle trails and a road climb 1,400 feet to the summit. Spur trails along the ridge bring hikers to views of the valley below. Recreation at the Park Activities at Cacapon are very diverse, Twenty-seven miles of leisure-to-challenging hiking and bridle trails pass thorugh forests to scenic vistas atop Cacapon Mountain. Take a guide ride on horseback through the park. Guests may swim, fish for bass and trout and rent row and paddle boats at Cacapon lake. Various games including tennis and volleyball are available. Guests can participate in the park's year-round nature and recreation program through guided hikes, slide shows, movies and craft workshops.
The golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, has been rated as one of the 130 best-designed courses in the country. Seventy-two sand traps provide ample opportunity to "go to the beach" and the 4th and 8th holes share a unique 100-yard wide green. The clubhouse has a well-equipped pro shop and a snack bar. A full-time golf professional is on duty and available for both group and private lessons. The Town of Berkeley Springs Berkeley Springs, West Virginia offers many places to visit. The town began as a spa. Visitors can receive all types of spa treatments, including massages and trips to the Roman Baths. In recent years, numerous craft and antique shops have sprouted up in town. One could easily spend hours looking at all they have to offer. One of the most fascinating features of the town, in my opinion, is the Berkeley Springs Castle. Yes, that’s right, a castle right in the middle of Berkeley Springs! Though it may not rival the castles of Europe, it is still a site to see -- built in to the mountain overlooking the town. Legend tells that the castle was built by a young man to show his love towards his intended bride. In the evening, you may want to visit the Star Theater, one of the few remainig old-time design movie houses on the East Coast. The Star shows recent releases.
